Where horse and rodeo photographers learn

Courses

Adapting to Challenging Light Conditions

Your ticket to better rodeo photos! Light at horse events is rarely perfect. Dim indoor arenas, mixed light sources, harsh afternoon sun and sunsets that change minute by minute all make it hard to get clean, sharp pictures. This course shows you how to adapt to each of these situations with confidence.

What the course covers

  • Reading the light when you arrive at a new arena.
  • Balancing shutter speed, aperture and ISO when there is not enough light.
  • Getting accurate colors under arena lights with custom white balance.
  • Dealing with flicker from certain types of arena lighting.
  • Shooting into and around harsh sun outdoors.
  • Keeping exposure consistent as conditions change during an event.

Practical approach

The lessons focus on real situations photographers face at rodeos and shows, with examples of common problems and step-by-step ways to fix them in camera. The goal is to spend less time correcting images afterward and more time delivering pictures customers are happy to buy.

Who it is for

This course is a good next step once you understand basic camera settings and want to handle tougher conditions. It is especially useful if you photograph indoor events or evening performances where light is often the biggest challenge.

Pair it with the Lighting course if you want to add strobes to your toolkit for the darkest arenas.
