Taking a great picture is only half of the job. The other half is the experience a customer has when they see it, order it and take it home. When that experience is memorable, people buy more, come back more and tell their friends. Here are some ways to create real wow moments at events.
Show the pictures quickly
Excitement fades fast after a run. The sooner a rider can see their images, the more likely they are to buy. Set up a viewing station near the arena where customers can scroll through their class shortly after it ends. A clear sign with the class name and a friendly person to help them find their run goes a long way.
Make prints look and feel special
Use good paper, keep your printer well maintained and calibrate your colors so the print matches what the customer saw on screen. Present each print in a sleeve or folder with your logo. Small touches turn a piece of paper into a keepsake.
Show what is possible
Many customers do not know what they can order until they see it. Display a few framed prints, a canvas and a collage at your booth. Seeing a finished product helps people imagine their own horse on the wall, and often leads to a larger order than a single print.
Learn names and stories
Remember the kid who just won her first buckle, or the horse coming back from an injury. Mention it when they stop by. People buy from photographers who care about them, not just from photographers with nice gear.
Make ordering easy
Offer simple packages, clear options and several ways to pay. If someone cannot decide at the event, give them a card with the website where they can order later. Every extra step is a chance for a customer to walk away.
Follow up
After the event, send a short thank-you message to customers who ordered. Let them know when galleries from the next event will be ready. A friendly follow-up keeps you on their mind for the rest of the season.
Deliver on every promise
If you say prints will be ready in an hour, have them ready. If a digital download is promised by Monday, send it by Monday. Reliability is one of the most impressive things you can offer, and it is completely in your control.
Wow is not one big gesture. It is many small things done consistently, event after event.
